AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT COMPASS AIRLINES

Am I Next? Compass Airlines closing Sea-Tac office, laying off all workers.

Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Compass Airlines, a regional carrier that provided short-haul and interconnection services for Delta (Delta Connection) and for American Airlines (American Eagle), has lost its contract with Delta Airlines in August 2019. In response to the loss, the company has decided to close-out its operations at the Sea-Tac airport located in Seattle, Washington and lay off all 197 employees as of May 1, 2020.

The company’s Sea-Tac offices were leased by Delta and its leased fleet of aircraft, mostly Embraer 175 jets, will be reduced from 56 to 20 aircraft. Delta plans to replace Compass by turning to SkyWest, another regional carrier, and absorbing some flights on Delta’s own aircraft. The decision to eliminate Compass as a Delta regional partner comes as Delta attempts to cut costs and reduce its regional carriers from five to three, leaving SkyWest Airlines, Republic Airways, and Endeavor Air.

Due to the impact of the Coronavirus, most airlines have seen a significant reduction in flights, especially into the Seattle area which is undergoing a serious outbreak of the virus.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT DELTA AIR LINES

Am I Next? Mass layoffs at Delta Air Lines.

Atlanta, Georgia-based Delta Air Lines, one of America’s premier airlines, has announced that it is responding to drastically reduced air travel associated with the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.

Am I Next? Coronavirus.

According to a company spokesperson, “As the coronavirus continues to spread in the United States and impact the economy, demand for travel is declining at an accelerated pace daily, driving an unprecedented revenue impact. Cancellations are rising dramatically with net bookings now negative for travel over the next four weeks. To put that in perspective, we're currently seeing more cancellations than new bookings over the next month. The speed of the demand fall-off is unlike anything we’ve seen – and we’ve seen a lot in our business. We are moving quickly to preserve cash and protect our company. And with revenues dropping, we must be focused on taking costs out of our business.”

The company will make an overall capacity reduction in the next few months of 40% -- the largest capacity reduction in Delta's history, including the 9/11 response in 2001. The situation is fluid and likely to be getting worse."

In response to the need to preserve capital, Delta has announced the layoff of 800 contract employees, many in technical and support positions, and most of whom were supplied by a third-party contractor, AgileOne. The cuts include parking up to 300 of its aircraft which will dramatically impact flight crews, ground crews, and support employees.

WARNING: THE HANDWRITING IS ON THE WALL FOR AMAZON DELIVERY DRIVERS

Am I Next? Amazon Delivery Partners at risk …

Everywhere we look, companies that have contracted to provide delivery services on behalf of Amazon are shedding employees. In many cases, the workers are independent contractors using their own vehicles and who are forced to keep up production or else.
