Am I Next? Hitachi Cable America closing Florida plant — outsourcing to Mexico.

Purchase, New York-based Hitachi Cable America, a designer and manufacturer of power, communication. and automotive cables, and assemblies, has announced a restructuring that will result in the closure of its Pensacola, Florida manufacturing facility by March 31, 2022. The Hitachi Pensacola facility manufactures components and cables for ABS braking systems and hybrid vehicles.

Layoffs, commencing immediately will be phased and will impact 202 employees, including 106 assemplers.

According to a statement filed with the State of Florida, "Planned in the second half of 2021 is the movement of all customer components manufacturing

from their current location in Pensacola, Florida to our facility located in Queretaro, Mexico. We are taking steps to reduce our costs of manufacturing, the realignment of this production will enable us to better serve our customers and remain competitive in the marketplace."

Greenwood Village?, Colorado-based Wheel Pros, a designer, manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of branded aftermarket automotive and truck wheels and accessories, has announced that it will change its manufacturing mix at its wheel casting facility in York, South Carolina. The changeup will affect 121 employees, including managers and equipment operators, commencing on September 15, 2021.

According to a company spokesperson, “We’re not closing the entire plant. We’re just refocusing the type of manufacturing that we’re doing.”

Am I Next? Plant closure affects American Axle and Manufacturing employees.

Detroit, Michigan-based American Axle and Manufacturing, a Tier 1 supplier to the automotive industry of specializing in the design, engineering, validation and manufacturing of driveline, metal forming, powertrain, and casted components, has announced that it will be closing the vehicle axle manufacturing facility in Emporium, Pennsylvania in the next 12 to 18 months.

The closure will affect hundreds of workers. Current operations will be transferred to other company locations.

American Axle and Manufacturing bought the business of GKN Sinter Metals and everything inside the building but didn’t purchase the actual building.
