The company has announced that 176 ABM employees in San Antonio, Texas performing contract work for Flowers Baking Company will be laid off effective March 2, 2024.
According to a company spokesperson, “The reason for this mass layoff is that Flowers has decided to take its janitorial work in-house at this location, meaning that it is terminating its third-party contract with ABM to provide these services.”
JUNE 14, 2022 — 368 ABM EMPLOYEES LAID OFF IN MENLO PARK, CALIFORNIA
The company has announced that Meta (Facebook) canceled a maintenance contract at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California. The contract loss will impact 368 employees.
JANUARY 28, 2022 — 409 ABM EMPLOYEES AT MULTIPLE KAISER HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN THREE STATES
The company has announced that it has lost its contract to provide environmental services to multiple Kaiser's healthcare facilities in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The contract loss will impact 409 employees with separations scheduled between February 28, 2022, and March 31, 2022.
DECEMBER 8, 2021 — 119 EMPLOYEES IN NORTH CAROLINA
ABM Aviation, a subsidiary of ABM, will lay off 119 workers located at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport in unincorporated Wake County, North Carolina, effective February 1, 2022.
The company will no longer provide janitorial services at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport as those contracted services will be supplied by San Jose, California-based Flagship Facility Services.
JUNE 19, 2021 — 90 EMPLOYEES IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
ABM Aviation, a subsidiary of ABM, will lay off 90 workers located at the Nashville International Airport in Nashville, Tennessee, effective June 30, 2021.
The company uses flexible staffing and reacts quickly to contract loss or downturns in business. Commercial airline traffic is still struggling from the effects of the pandemic which has closed a number of destination locations and hospitality businesses.

New York, New York-based ABM Industries, a provider of industrial, commercial, and government facility management and services, has announced hundreds of layoffs associated with the loss of public school district contracts for maintenance and janitorial services.
VOLUSHA COUNTY: 116 employees by July 1, 2021 after the end of a contract with the Volusia County Public School District
DUVAL COUNTY: 960 employees by July 1, 2021 after the end of a contract with Duval County Public Schools.
According to published reports, "The Volusia County school district is testing out a plan to bring custodial services back in-house, after mounting complaints about cleanliness in the schools under the current private contractor.
The theory is that in-house, school-based custodial staff will perform at or above the current level of service being provided by ABM Industries."
