Ashburn, Virginia-based MVM, a private security contractor providing security contractors, staffing, training, translation and related services to government clients, has announced a reduction in force due to the termination of the company’s contract with the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement to provide logistics for unaccompanied immigrant children.
The contract loss will impact 379 employees who work in immigration-related jobs along the U.S.-Mexico border, including 247 workers in El Paso, Texas, and 132 employees in McAllen, Texas.
According to a company spokesperson, “MVM did not receive the expected extension to the contract. We would have liked to have given you more advance notice of this action but were unable to do so due to these circumstances.”
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
