JANUARY 28, 2021 — GOYA FOODS ADOPTS A PRUDENT APPROACH
In a move designed to avoid alienating customers, generating unfaVorable media attention, and suffering reputational damage, the Board of Directors at the family-owned Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States, has restricted the public pronouncements of its CEO who must now obtain Board permission to speak with the media.
One Board member notes, "The family has diverse views on politics, but politics is not part of our business. Our political point of views are irrelevant.”

Now Having a Gab or Parler Account Can Get You Fired
Literary agent Colleen Oefelein worked for the Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency in New York. Oefelein, according to Newsweek, tweeted in November that she had established accounts on Parler and Gab because, unlike Twitter and Facebook, they do not censor content. Oefelein never posted anything offensive on the Parler or Gab accounts. She appeared to be looking for authors to work with.
Someone on Twitter alerted De Chiara that Oefelein had the social media accounts. De Chiara swiftly fired her.
“The Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency was distressed to discover this morning, January 25th, that one of our agents has been using the social media platforms Gab and Parler. We do not condone this activity, and we apologize to anyone who has been affected or offended by this,” De Chiara wrote. “The Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency has in the past and will continue to ensure a voice of unity, equality, and one that is on the side of social justice.” <Source>
JANUARY 12, 2021 — Original post…
Once again, we are seeing individuals, including high-ranking executives being fired, demoted, or losing promotions for their comments on the various social media platforms. And, unfortunately, there appears to be no expiration date on foolish, accidental, or out-of-context comments.
Even worse, the spill-over of the “cancel culture,” can affect employers who derive much of their discovery and advertising from social media interactions.
We are living in very dangerous times as individuals and organizations are impacted by social media campaigns — some being mounted by basement-dwelling teenagers of little or no accomplishment.
At some point in time, shareholders who have invested in social media platforms will revolt against the childish and petulant tech tyrants who are destroying individuals and organizations with whom they do not agree for political, personal, or professional reasons.
We are entering a critically dangerous time when organizations rely more-and-more on the internet and social media platforms — risking everything on a random comment that annoys some individual or organization.
Forewarned is forearmed.
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
