AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT THRASIO

Walpole, Massachusetts-based Thrasio, an Amazon aggregator of e-commerce consumer goods companies and products, has announced a restructuring and a reduction in force that will commence May 13, 2022, and impact an, as yet unknown, number of employees. The company will replace its only remaining founder and CEO, Carlos Cashman, in August 2022.

As noted in a company-wide email…

"As you know, we've been working to execute a transformation that will strengthen the foundation we've built and ensure we're set up for a strong and sustainable future. As we've assessed the market landscape and our organization, we continue to see significant opportunities ahead, and we need to make some strategic and operational changes to ensure Thrasio is positioned for long-term success."

"Today we are sharing the news that we've made the decision to reduce the size of the Thrasio team. This is not an easy decision – especially within a culture like ours that is shaped around community and sharing. Each one of you has helped build this business. To those who will no longer be on the journey, we're hopeful and confident this is a launching pad for your next great adventure, and we'll make sure we do whatever we can to help support that transition."

"We've been thoughtful and deliberate in determining the workforce reductions that were necessary. We took a fresh look at our vision, and assessed teams, functions, people, and skill sets, mapping them to the critical areas we need going forward. As part of this effort, we've also redeployed people to contribute in areas of the organization needing their skills and experience."

"To the Thrashers who will be leaving the company: these reductions are not a reflection of you or your work. You're talented and dedicated, and any company would be lucky to have you. We deeply appreciate all you have given to Thrasio. We're committed to doing everything we can to set you up for a successful next step in your career."

"To those of you who are saying goodbye to teammates, take this time to honor and support your colleagues who are leaving. Share contacts, make introductions and find other ways to help them.

Medford, Oregon-based Harry & David, an online and physical retailer of gourmet fruit and food gifts, has decided to take advantage of the coronavirus pandemic restrictions on retail activity to shutter 38 brick-and mortar stores with the exception of a flaship store located near the comanys headquarters in Medford, Oregon.

Approximately 370 store employees and support personnel are impacted by the closures which are scheduled over the coming months.

This has been a long-time coming since consumers continue to be bombarded with online food and gift options, many from the band portfolio from Harry & David's parent 1-800-Flowers.com, Inc.

Am I Next? Casper Sleep layoffs and cost-reduction.

New York, New York-based Casper Sleep, a manufacturer and e-commerce retailer specializing in sleep products, nas announced a major reduction in force of approximately 78 employees.

According to a corporate statement...

"In addition to the retail employee furlough announced on March 30, due to the impacts of COVID-19, the Company is taking additional cost reduction actions, including a workforce restructuring that will reduce the size of its team globally and a wind-down of its European operations to concentrate on the strength of the North American business. The Company’s European operations are expected to wind down largely by the end of 2020.

In total, these actions will impact approximately 78 employees, comprising about 21% of its corporate workforce globally, and result in more than $10 million in annualized savings, and are part of the Company’s overall focus on achieving profitability.

We are making a series of difficult decisions to preserve the long-term resiliency and flexibility of the Company. These actions enable us to focus on the strength of our North American business during this uncertain time and remain committed to our customers who continue to rely on us for a better night’s sleep—today and well into the future."
