AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT LIQUID CONTROLS

Am I Next? Liquid Controls consolidation.

Lake Bluff, Illinois-based Liquid Controls, a major supplier of liquid measuring and control systems, has announced a reorganization that will result in the closure of its Lake Bluff manufacturing facility. The closure will impact 87 employees commencing May 24, 2021 and be completed by the end of 2021. An office for sales and support of the company's products will remain in Lake Bluff.

According to a company spokesperson, the company plans to consolidate Liquid Controls LLC and another parent company IDEX subsidiary, Oklahoma City-based Corken Inc., and operate together under the name Advance Flow Solutions in Oklahoma City.

The President of Liquid Control and Corken, Art Laszlo, noted that the decision to consolidate the company's operations into an existing Corken facility in Oklahoma City was the result of "significant long-term changes in the energy and transportation sectors."

Allegedly, according to an anonymous employee, "A large portion of the manufacturing business is being outsourced to India and Italy. And to make things worse, they have brought people for Oklahoma here for us to train to do our jobs."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT COMMERCIAL METALS COMPANY

Am I Next? Commercial Metals Company idles plant capacity in California.

Irving, Texas-based Commercial Metals Company, operator of steel mini-mills and recycling facilities in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, and Poland, has announced that they are idling a major portion of their mini-mill in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The California operation melts scrap metal into steel fence posts and reinforcing bars (rebar). The company is also known for accommodating police departments to destroy surplus guns.

Approximately 100 employees may be affected by the company’s decision.

According to a company spokesperson, “The burdensome regulatory environment and cost of doing business in California has put the Rancho Cucamonga melt shop at a severe cost disadvantage in the highly competitive rebar market. Therefore, CMC has decided to shutter the melt shop and supply the rolling mill with billet from excess melt capacity throughout our system of lower cost mills”.

NOVEMBER 5, 2019 — Original post…

North Canton, Ohio-based Timken Company, a manufacturer of bearings and associated components, has announced their intentions to transfer their high volume bearing and roller production from the Gaffney, South Carolina plant to other Timken facilities with additional capacity. Approximately 150 employees will be affected over a phased nine-month process.

According to a company spokesperson…

At Timken, we continually review our operations and global manufacturing footprint to ensure we are providing the best possible value and service to our customers.

We continue to see challenging conditions across many markets that we serve from our Gaffney, South Carolina, plant. After careful consideration, we have made some restructuring decisions that will reduce overall employment at our Gaffney facility by approximately 150 positions over the next nine months. While we expect many of these reductions will be achieved through attrition and retirements, we will provide support to help those affected by this change including, employment opportunities at other Timken manufacturing plants, outplacement services, benefits continuation and retention pay.

While difficult, these changes are required to streamline operations and restructure our manufacturing footprint to better compete in a global market.”
