AM IN NEXT? NO LOVE AT UTC AEROSPACE SYSTEMS

Am I Next? UTC Aerospace Systems Mass layoff - 300 positions in Chula Vista, California.

UTC Aerospace Systems, a division of Farmington, Connecticut-based United Technologies, has announced plans to eliminate 300 positions as it phases out aircraft component manufacturing operations in its Chula Vista, California facility. The decision was a response to the key clients such as Boeing and Airbus discontinuing the manufacture of certain commercial aircraft models and affects mostly those employees who work with sheet metal fabrication of aircraft engine covers and mounts and will not affect other facility operations involving after-market spare parts distribution, engineering test labs and administrative and support positions.

According to a company spokesperson, “We remain committed to being in Chula Vista. This action is due to decreases in production volumes as we near completion and sunset several legacy aircraft programs. There will still be 1,500 jobs there. We are not shutting down the entire location. We recognize the impact this decision will have on our employees and their families, and will not begin the wind-down until 2019. We expect the entire process to take place over a two-year period.”

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT HEALTH NET FEDERAL SERVICES

Am I Next? Health Net Federal Services Contract Loss Layoffs.

Health Net Federal Services, a provider of managed health care programs for government agencies, has filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice with the State of Florida signaling the company’s intention to permanently lay off 131 workers, including 72 authorization and appointing representatives, 20 supervisors, directors and managers, and 17 customer service representatives, in its Tampa, Florida facility. The layoff decision appears to be directly attributable to the loss of a government contract to provide services under the Patient-Centered Community Care and Veterans Choice Program ending September 30, 2018.

As with any contract-driven enterprise, the ability to adjust company capabilities to meet client demands and profitability profiles using flexible staffing remains a constant reminder that these positions are little more than long-term temporary positions that can be terminated at will.

NO LOVE AT TEC INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION

Am I Next? Layoffs at TEC Industrial Maintenance & Construction

Kingsport, Tennessee-based T E C Industrial Maintenance & Construction (formerly known as Tennessee Electric Company), a specialty contractor providing a full range of maintenance, construction, and project services for their industrial clients, has announced that they will lay off 238 workers.

It appears that this is part of the normal capacity adjustment process and restructuring following the loss of major contracts or clients. It is believed that the company lost a major customer, said to be Eastman Chemical, to Jacobs Engineering Group for construction, maintenance and turnaround services at Eastman's Longview, Texas, and Kingsport, Tennessee plants.
