AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT UKG (07/07/24)

JULY 7, 2024 — 2,200 EMPLOYEES TARGETED

The company has announced that it will cut more than 2,200 jobs or 14 percent of its global workforce, mainly in the United States.

According to Chief Executive Chris Todd, “We are announcing a number of organizational changes that will allow us to aggressively focus on critical areas of growth and to provide flexibility to actively invest in important new areas. These changes mean we have made the difficult decision to say goodbye to ~14% of our colleagues. A top priority through this change is treating those leaving with care, dignity, and respect, and providing support to make their transitions as smooth as possible.”

“I know notifying you of this news the day before a holiday in the U.S. is very difficult timing. We originally planned to share these changes next week, however, due to news and speculation related to this action circulating internally, we chose to accelerate the timing to today to provide you clarity and reduce employees going through the weekend in a state of uncertainty.”

“We determined that we need to redirect our investments to better support our strategic goals, and we need to create a more agile and responsive organization. I am sorry you are impacted by these decisions. The fact that these changes will impact your lives weighs very heavily on me.”

“While decisions that impact our team are not ones we come to lightly, these changes will allow us to redirect resources and invest in key areas of product innovation while enhancing how we support our customers. We are committed to supporting our colleagues through this transition.”

Lowell, Massachusetts-based UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group), a software company providing workforce management and human resource management services, has announced a restructuring that will result in a 1.7% reduction in its workforce.

The reduction will impact 265 employees across the company's workforce.

According to a company spokesperson, "A lot has changed in the world of workplace and HR technology since we formed UKG three years ago. To capture the opportunity in front of us, we need to invest in the right areas. We realized that there are some areas where our teams had duplication, were not aligned with our future vision and roadmap, or were places where we can be more efficient. By taking these actions, we are positioning UKG to continue to be successful into the future."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT HUBSPOT

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based HubSpot, a developer, and marketer of software products for inbound marketing, sales, and customer service, has announced a cost-cutting initiative leading to the relocation of the company's Cambridge, Massachusetts, headquarters, closure of its Davenport Building office space, and a major reduction in the company's workforce.

Approximately 500 employees, or 7% of the workforce, are targeted for separation.

CEO Yamini Rangan noted, "Our business boomed throughout the pandemic, but in 2022, things took a downward turn. We came into 2022 anticipating growth would slow down from 2021, but we experienced a faster deceleration than we expected." Including a perfect storm of inflation, volatile foreign exchange, tighter customer budgets, and longer decision-making cycles."

"We were optimistic about our headcount growth and underestimated the impact of the slowdown in 2022. Unfortunately, the level of uncertainty in customer demand now tells us that we may have more challenging times ahead. We need to set ourselves up to weather this storm."
