AM I NEXT? DOES THE DEMOCRAT PARTY POSE a major THREAT TO BUSINESS?

Am I Next? Democrat Threat?

If you are to believe the Democrat Party candidates for the Presidency of the United States who participated in the two-night debate sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee on June 26th and 27th 2019, the inescapable handwriting is on the wall …

The Democrats are about the fundamental political, economic, and social transformation of America and it is all to be funded by American corporations that are portrayed as greedy and ill-deserving of the profits used to benefit executives, employees, and the investors. Unmindful of the fact that some of those investors are mutual funds whose shares are held by many ordinary individuals as part of their retirement packages.

Little or no attention was paid to the massive government spending and the exponentially expanding debt where debt service will consume the entire GDP in the near future.

While tariffs were condemned, nobody mentioned the windfall of funds flowing into the U.S. Treasury that will be spent by politicians buying influence and votes in the present election cycle.

Nobody bothered to mention that legislation created by the Democrats (Dodd-Frank) allows regulated financial institutions to use their client’s money to save them from their own bad decisions. Simply Google “bail-in” to see what might happen if the economy turns South quickly.

While candidates speak about wage inequality and a “living wage,” entry-level positions for those with few skills and little experience were not meant to support a family of four. Paying what was previously classified as “casual labor” $31,200 plus benefits ($15/hour) which will result in bankruptcies, loss of significant revenues, and major labor dislocations. Companies will replace full-time employees who qualify for benefits with a series of part-time employees who will not be eligible for benefits. Ask yourself if you are willing to pay $40 for a McDonald’s meal for yourself, your spouse, and your two children? The casual labor that was to be protected, now faces an existential threat.

Are you prepared for a union-intervention by those who reward seniority over merit, favor the status quo over innovation, subdivide logical tasks to create the need for additional unionized employees, and add significant time, effort, and costs to most products and services? Can you rise through a union-mandated hirearchy based on your performance?

This is not about politics per se, it is about your future; politics simply one of the risk factors to be considered when planning ahead.

Vote your future.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AMINEXT? IS THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL AT ABBVIE (10/16/22)

Am I Next? AbbVie to acquire Allergan.

SEPTEMBER 16, 2022 — 99 EMPLOYEE LAYOFFS IN IRVINE, CALIFORNIA

The company has announced that it will be laying off 99 employees at its Allergan manufacturing site located in Irvine, California. The layoffs will commence on November 23, 2022.

NOVEMBER 30, 2020 — WARREN BUFFETT TAKES A STAKE

According to a regulatory filing, Warren Buffett’s company Berkshire Hathaway has disclosed a $1.8 billion position in Abbvie.

JUNE 27, 2019…

Lake Bluff, Illinois-based United States AbbVie, a 2011 spin-off of Abbott Laboratories and a research-based pharmaceutical manufacturer, has announced its agreement to acquire Dublin, Ireland-based pharmaceutical manufacturer Allergan for approximately $63 billion. It is believed that AbbVie is preparing for the loss of patent-protected rheumatoid-arthritis treatment Humira to a generic versions now selling in Europe and which will enter the U.S. in 2023. Humira represents approximately 58.3% of AbbVie’s revenue in 2018.

The handwriting is on the wall. There will be personnel dislocations and reductions in force as duplicative functions are consolidated during a period of integration between the two companies. Even more serious will be the cost cutting necessary to compensate for the loss of billion-dollar profits caused by competitive biosimilar generic drugs.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE -- LAYOFFS AND CLOSURE AT RIVERBEND FOODS

Am I Next? Riverbend Foods closes Pittsburgh facility.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Riverbend Foods, a private label co-packer food company as announced the closure of its Pittsburgh baby food and soup production facility on July 31, 2019. The closure will result in the layoff of 396 workers, many represented by Local 23 of the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

Riverbend Foods was created by Southlake, Texas-based Insight Equity in May 2017 when it was purchased from TreeHouse Foods. The 625,000 square-foot facility has also been operated by Del Monte Foods and prior to that H.J. Heinz. The company recently reduced production from three shifts to one per day and sold its main soup production line.

Following contentious union negotiations which threatened a shutdown, the company signed a 3-year union agreement, which eliminated health care benefits for current and future retirees, in March 2019 and then filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Business & Industry noting that the company needed to “keep all of our options open in case circumstances beyond our control prevent us from continuing beyond the date in the original WARN notice."

Some published reports suggest that Insight never planned to continue producing food at the facility, but saw an asset play over valuable real estate that could be re purposed.
