AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT YAPSTONE

Am I Next? Restructuring at YapStone.

Walnut Creek, California-based YapStone, a provider offering of cloud-based web and mobile payment processing to real estate and vacation rental companies, has announced the plan to lay off 66 employees between their Walnut Creek headquarters and Los Angeles, California office. Layoffs are scheduled to commence mid-October, 2019 and include three vice presidents, accountants, and software engineers.

A company spokesperson noted, “We have invested heavily over the past two years in a ground-up development project called Transact – our new end-to-end payments solution for marketplaces, the travel industry and other industries that demand a flexible and configurable system for complex payment flows. Transact was announced last October and is live. As we shift focus from development to growing and diversifying our business, the adjustments in our staffing aligns resources against our go-forward strategy and requirements, and better reflects synergies in our operations and support functions due to automation and our expanding global presence.”

Golden, Colorado-based CoorsTek, a manufacturer of technical ceramics for aerospace, automotive, chemical, electronics, medical, and other applications, has announced that it will be closing its ceramics manufacturing plant in Ventura, California in October, 2019 and laying off 268 employees. The plant was previously the home of the Gaiser Tool Company, a high-quality ceramic precision tooling manufacturer of semiconductor wire-bonding tools, which was acquired by CoorsTek in 2007. According to plant employees, operations will cease and the Gaiser brand and products discontinued.

It appears that the decision was based on semiconductor marketplace economics which is experiencing a world-wide slowdown and the various tariffs and trade issues occurring in the Asian market.
