AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ACCO BRANDS USA

Lake Zurich, Illinois-based ACCO Brands USA, designers, manufacturers, and marketers of office supplies and other business and consumer products, has announced the closure of its Sidney, New York manufacturing facility. The facility produces desk calendars, notebooks, and planners.

The closure, already under war, will impact 231 employees in phases. The last caretaker/closure employees will be laid off on February 10, 2025. ACCO plans to relocate the manufacturing activities to an external supplier and transition the distribution function to its Booneville, Mississippi, facility.

According to a company spokesperson, "ACCO Brands is continually challenged to determine the best way to conduct business, optimize capacity, increase capability, and respond to market pressures. Accordingly, we spend a significant amount of time evaluating our business and operations footprint to ensure we have the right structure to respond to changing market conditions and remain competitive. During a recent evaluation, we made the difficult decision to close our Sidney, N.Y. manufacturing and distribution plant. This decision was not made lightly, as many dedicated employees work there."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT STEWART-HAAS RACING

Kannapolis, North Carolina based Stewart-Haas Racing, a professional stock car racing team that currently competes in the NASCAR's Cup and Xfinity Series, has announced a mass layoff at the company's team facility after the NASCAR Cup Series season ends on November 11, 2024.

The reduction in force will impact 323 employees, including the chief financial officer, crew chief, event marketing manager and an executive vice president.

Founder Gene Haas noted, “My commitment to motorsports hasn’t changed, just the scope of my involvement. Operating a four-car Cup Series team has become too arduous but, at the same time, I still need a platform to promote Haas Automation and grow HaasTooling.com. Maintaining my presence in Cup allows Haas Automation to compete at NASCAR’s highest level, which is important to our customers and distributors. The remaining team will be restructured as the Haas Factory Team for next season."
