Columbia, Missouri-based Boyce & Bynum Pathology Laboratories has sold their thirteen laboratory clinic operations to Secaucus, New Jersey-based Quest Diagnostics, a multinational operator of clinical laboratories. The acquisition will result in the layoff of approximately 177 employees in the first quarter of 2019. The sale will not affect the company's pathology division or long-term care division.
According to a company spokesperson, the decision was driven by market conditions with the spokesperson noting, "We did not make these decisions lightly, and only did so after reviewing our options in a challenging healthcare landscape. We realize that any job reduction is painful for families and the community."
Quest continues to snap-up small independent blood draw and testing operations that cannot successfully compete against hospital-based testing operations and the largest clinical laboratories.
