Dallas, Texas-based Arcosa Wind Towers, a manufacturer of structural wind towers, has announced that it will be permanently laying off 148 employees at its Clinton, Illinois manufacturing facility.
The company is facing significant competition from companies such as General Electric, Vestas, Acciona/Nordex, and Gamesa/Siemens-Gamesa. There is also the increasing realization that heavily subsidized, costly, and unreliable wind energy cannot meet peak demands and may never serve as primary power sources.
