São Paulo, Brazil-based Gerdau Special Steel, a producer of engineered carbon and alloy-based steel bars for industrial and commercial applications has announced tat it will be laying off 140 employees at its Jackson, Michigan plant in mid-April 2020. The decision was said to be driven by business considerations involving the “long term stability of the business.” The company’s melting and rolling operations will be discontinued with the machinery being maintained for a potential restart if business conditions improve. The company’s finishing operations will remain active.
According to a company spokesperson, “This was an incredibly difficult decision to make because our Jackson mill has operated here for more than 45 years. However, this is an action we must take in order to ensure the overall sustainability of the business. The decision is necessary to ‘rationalize company costs’ by allocating product mix to specific plants.”
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
