Greenville, North Carolina-based Vidant Health, an owner/operator of community hospitals and specialty medical clinics, has announced a major reduction in force which will impact 191 employees, with 82 being laid off at corporate headquarters, 75 layoffs will occur at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, and the remainder from other facilities.
The decision was specifically aimed at the remediation of an $18 million shortfall during Q1 of 2020.

‘“Through Stand Up for ENC, I have continued to share the urgent need for support of rural health care due to the challenging environment we face, including decreasing reimbursements and the lack of Medicaid expansion. Despite our high volumes, these challenges have resulted in Vidant Health experiencing a budget shortfall during the first quarter of FY20.
In order to begin to recover from this shortfall, protect Vidant’s mission against ongoing challenges and ensure a stable future ·for health care in our region, we initiated a financial performance improvement process.
The first steps in this process were to reduce costs, implement operational efficiencies and discontinue recruitment and hiring for certain non-patient care positions. After these assessments, it was determined a workforce reduction was also necessary.
Today, we are announcing the difficult decision to implement a workforce reduction which includes separating 191 team members.
