Chicago, Illinois-based EVRAZ, a multinational vertically integrated steel and mining company owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, has announced that it will lay off an additional 65 employees at its Oregon Steel mill in Portland Oregon. The layoffs follow the April, 2020 lay off of 232 employees at the same location.
The decision was driven by a "significant downturn in business." Much of the decline appears to be driven by the slump in oil and gas production, the delay of pipeline projects along with issues of imported and subsidized pipe into the marketplace.
