San Francisco, California-based PG&E, a major California utility operation undergoing great turmoil as it emerges from Capter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, has announced it is planning to exit its San Francisco headquarters and re-locate across the San Francisco Bay to Oakland, California. The move will require the permission of the utility's regulator, the California Public Utilities Commission. In addition to the two downtown properties, PG&E plans to close other offices in East San Francisco and move those functions to Oakland.
The company will offer its two downtown San Francisco properties for sale to reduce its real estate costs in the pricey San Francisco real estate market.
According to a company spokesperson, “Our new Oakland headquarters will be significantly more cost-effective, is better suited to the needs of our business, and is a critical part of fulfilling our commitment to operate in a fiscally responsible way.”
Employee sentiments appear mixed as they leave a crumbling high-price San Francisco for a location with a significant problem with gentrification and rising prices.
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
