Long Beach, California-based MWN Community Hospital, the operator of the Community Hospital Long Beach, has announced that is repurposing the hospital property beginning with the shutdown of its acute care and emergency department operations.
The repurposing is planned in stages and will affect 328 employees including nurses medical staff, and support personnel who will be laid off commencing January 31, 2022.
According to a company statement, "MWN is planning to transition the hospital into a behavioral health and wellness facility named Long Beach Community Wellness Campus. The transition will allow the hospital to avoid about $75 million in construction costs to bring it into compliance with California's seismic requirements for acute care."
