Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania-based Commonwealth Health System, a subsidiary of Franklin, Tennessee-based Community Health Systems, and one of the state's largest healthcare networks serving Northeastern Pennsylvania, has announced that it will be transitioning Tyler Memorial Hospital located in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania to an urgent care and outpatient service center. Acute inpatient, surgical, and emergency room services will be discontinued and only urgent care services will be provided after October 24, 2021.
The transition from an acute care to an urgent care facility will impact 110 employees.
According to a company statement, "Despite investments in the Tyler Memorial Hospital facility and equipment to provide for growth, efficiencies for staff and improved care for patients so people can access services close to home, community usage has steadily declined over the past four years – even at the height of the pandemic.
Every caregiver at Tyler Memorial Hospital is valued for the important part they play in caring for patients. Commonwealth Health will work to retain as many employees as possible to staff the new urgent care and outpatient clinic and offer opportunities for positions at other network facilities."
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
