Louisville, Kentucky-based Churchill Downs Incorporated, the entertainment and gaming parent company of Churchill Downs and owner of the Arlington International Racecourse, has announced the permanent closure of the 326-acre Arlington Park. The closure will affect between 237 and 270 employees, including 50 unionized employees, and layoffs are scheduled "within 14 days of the last day of racing September 25, 2021."
Arlington Park President Tony Petrillo noted, "As it was announced earlier this year the Arlington Park Racecourse, LLC has been placed on the market for sale which will result in the closure of Arlington International Racecourse. Consistent with these plans, employment separations presently are expected to begin on or about September 25, 2021. The entire Racecourse facility is being permanently closed in conjunction with the expectation of the sale."
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
