Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group and a supplier of electricity, natural gas, and steam to customers across four states, has announced the retirement of its oldest coal-fired power generation units located in Oak Creek, Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Michigan.
The older 1960s vintage coal-fired units at the 1,000 acres site are scheduled to close between 2023 and 2024 as the company shifts toward generating more electricity from renewables like solar and wind, and uses cheaper natural gas as a backup.
The shutdown will impact 150 - 200 employees.
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
