LSG Sky Chefs, owned by Neu-Isenburg, Germany-based Lufthansa Services Group, an airline catering and hospitality service provider, has announced the mass layoff of 576 workers at three California airports.
The 576 layoffs are effective October 1, 2021, and include 294 employees at Los Angeles International Airport, 210 employees at San Francisco International Airport, and 72 at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California.
According to the company, the decision was driven by a dowturn in commercial airline business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a company spokesperson, “Given the unpredictable nature of the current global pandemic which affects the frequency and volume of flights, and in turn, the amount of business Sky Chefs Inc. retains, the number of employees to be actually impacted by the mass layoff is unforeseeable and may change as we near the date of separation. The layoffs will impact a variety of jobs, ranging from food production coordinators, sous chefs, supply clerks and utility workers, to vehicle mechanics, storekeepers, food-equipment handlers and account managers, among other positions."
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
