AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

New York City, New York-based New York Daily News, an iconic New York tabloid known for its front-page headlines and photos, has announced its plans to close its Liberty View plant in Jersey City, New Jersey, and outsource its printing and inserting operations to the Woodland Park, New Jersey-based North Jersey Media Group-owned the Gannett Company.

The closure will impact 224 employees with separations scheduled for March 12, 2022.

The decision was driven by industry consolidation and the declining print readership in the digital age. New York-based Alden Global Capital acquired the paper in early 2021 and has a reputation for vigorous cost-cutting.

Some note that the move from the unionized 15-year-old, state-of-the-art Liberty View facility in Jersey City to the older non-unionized plant in Woodland Park, New Jersey is an attempt to wring concessions from the union and reduce costs.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
