AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT WASHINGTON STATE EMPLOYMENT SECURITY DEPARTMENT

Olympia, Washington-based Washington State Employment Security Department, the manager of Washington State's unemployment system, has announced a major reduction in force.

The ESD plans to lay off 769 temporary workers, including workers in claims processing, customer service, and claims review and investigations, hired to assist with higher than normal claims processing volumes as a reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. Layoffs will be completed by the end of April 2022.

The decision was attributed to the reduction in federal funds to support claims operations.

According to an SD spokesperson, “We don’t have an option to keep these people — we don’t have the funding. Our funding model dictates that we have to lay these people off.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
