JUNE 27, 2022 — CITADEL RELOCATING THEIR HEADQUARTERS FROM CHICAGO, ILLINOIS TO MIAMI, FLORIDA
Chicago, Illinois-based Citadel, a multi-billion dollar hedge fund, and Citadel Securities have announced their decision to relocate their headquarters from Chicago to Miami, Florida.
Both companies, with over 1,000 employees, are acceding to their founder billionaire Ken Griffin was motivated by Florida's business-friendly climate and tax advantages, and concerns about rising crime rates in Chicago.
According to a memo to Citadel employees Griffin wrote, "I am excited to have recently moved to Miami with my family and look forward to rapidly expanding Citadel in a city so rich in diversity and abounding with energy. Miami is a vibrant, growing metropolis that embodies the American Dream."
There is nothing unusual for a company to follow its founder or chief executive.
The timeline for the move is unclear, but the handwriting is on the wall for all low-level employees in easily replaced support positions.
