Modesto, California-based Stanislaus Surgical Hospital has announced that its continuing operations are in question after CMS decided to terminate its Medicare contract following a substandard California Department of Public Health survey in February 2024, which found the hospital was not in compliance with certain Medicare conditions of participation.
"Effective on April 30, 2024, the Secretary of the Department of Health & Human Services will terminate its Medicare Provider Agreement with Stanislaus Surgical Hospital. A Medicare complaint validation survey conducted on February 5, 2024, found Stanislaus Surgical Hospital was not in compliance with requirements for participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs as established by the Social Security Act (Section 1861) and its underlying regulations."
"Termination of your participation in the Medicare program will also result in termination of your Medicaid agreement.CMS is forwarding a copy of this letter to the California Medi-Cal Medicaid program."
According to a California State WARN notice, the facility is laying off 191 employees, effective April 30, 2024, which coincides with the termination of its Medicare Provider Agreement.
The fate of the facility is in question as it is appealing the CMS decision.
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
