AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT PRIDE INDUSTRIES

Roseville, California-based PRIDE Industries, a social enterprise that creates employment for people with disabilities by providing competitive business services to commercial, industrial, and government clients, has announced a reduction in force involving disabled prison contractors working at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, California.

Approximately 62 employees working in the California prison system will be laid off due to a union dispute forcing the state prison to no longer employ PRIDE workers in what are typically civil service positions. The corrupt Service Employees International Union Local 1000, which wields significant power in the State, is behind the grievance.

According to a union spokesperson, “We challenged the outsourcing of custodial services at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville because it violated civil service protections enshrined in the California State Constitution, which safeguard stable employment and fair treatment for public workers.”

Instead of making accommodations and taking meaningful steps to integrate these workers into state service, the state is allowing the contract to run its course, which is set to expire at the end of February 2025.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT THE FEDERAL RESERVE

Washington, D.C.-based Federal Reserve, a privately-owned corporation with a quasi-government charter to act as the United States Central Bank, has announced a reduction in force affecting just over 1% of the Federal Reserve's workforce.

Approximately 300 employees will be impacted, primarily affecting technology positions at the central bank’s 12 regional reserve banks.

The decision appears to be driven by the implementation of cloud-based computer software, and positions connected to the payment processing systems which are being consolidated as paper check volumes decline in favor of electronic transactions.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT WASHINGTON STATE EMPLOYMENT SECURITY DEPARTMENT

Olympia, Washington-based Washington State Employment Security Department, the manager of Washington State's unemployment system, has announced a major reduction in force.

The ESD plans to lay off 769 temporary workers, including workers in claims processing, customer service, and claims review and investigations, hired to assist with higher than normal claims processing volumes as a reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. Layoffs will be completed by the end of April 2022.

The decision was attributed to the reduction in federal funds to support claims operations.

According to an SD spokesperson, “We don’t have an option to keep these people — we don’t have the funding. Our funding model dictates that we have to lay these people off.”
