Am I Next? Spectra Laboratories closes facility.

Waltham, Massachusetts-based Spectra Laboratories, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care North America, the world's largest vertically integrated dialysis service provider and a provider kidney care products, services, testing, and training, has announced the closure of one of its California facilities.

The Spectra West facility in Milpitas, California closure will affect 178 jobs and will start around October 11, 2021 and continue until January 31, 2022.

The closure announcement coincides with the opening of a major new 200,000-square-foot state-of-the-art laboratory services facility in Southaven, Mississippi.

Am I Next? Arlington International Racecourse to close.

Louisville, Kentucky-based Churchill Downs Incorporated, the entertainment and gaming parent company of Churchill Downs and owner of the Arlington International Racecourse, has announced the permanent closure of the 326-acre Arlington Park. The closure will affect between 237 and 270 employees, including 50 unionized employees, and layoffs are scheduled "within 14 days of the last day of racing September 25, 2021."

Arlington Park President Tony Petrillo noted, "As it was announced earlier this year the Arlington Park Racecourse, LLC has been placed on the market for sale which will result in the closure of Arlington International Racecourse. Consistent with these plans, employment separations presently are expected to begin on or about September 25, 2021. The entire Racecourse facility is being permanently closed in conjunction with the expectation of the sale."
