Jupiter, Florida-based J.J. Taylor Companies, a beer distributor serving the states of Florida and Minnesota, has announced that the company will sell its Minnesota operation, known as J.J. Taylor Distributing Company of Minnesota, to New York, New York-based Breakthru Beverage Group, a leading alcohol wholesaler in the United States and Canada.

Approximately 180 employees will be impacted when the deal closes later in Spring 2022.

According to J.J. Taylor Companies' Chairman, President and CEO John Taylor, "We are pleased with the sale of our Minnesota business to Breakthru and are confident the newly combined team will continue our legacy of ‘First Choice’ service in the Twin Cities.”

Atlanta, Georgia-based Graphic Packaging International, one of the largest manufacturers of paperboard and paper-based packaging, has announced the closure of its 350,000-square-foot Battle Creek, Michigan recycled paperboard mill by August 2022. Production will be consolidated at the company's Kalamazoo, Michigan plant which features a $600-million paper machine capable of producing 1,400 tons of paperboard per day.

The closure will affect 200 employees.

According to a company spokesperson, "We did not make this decision lightly. We recognize plant closures are very difficult for all involved, and we are committed to assisting our affected employees over the coming months."

Massillon, Ohio-based Shearer's Foods, a manufacturer of snack products including potato chips, tortillas, whole grain chips, cheese curls/puffs, popcorn, pork rinds, rice crisps, wafers, cookies, and both sweet and savory biscuits, has announced that a boiler explosion and fire at the Shearer’s Foods plant in Hermiston, Oregon, has destroyed the facility.

The forced shutdown will result in 400 layoffs.

According to CEO Bill Nictakis, “After assessing the damage, it’s clear that the destruction is too great to quickly rebuild and begin production in the near term. It would take at least 15-18 months to rebuild and restart production."
