AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT EVOLVE

Denver, Colorado-based Evolve, a vacation rental management company, has announced a second round of layoffs this year, this one a 20-percent reduction in its workforce.

The reduction in force will impact 175 employees. This follows the May 2023 reduction of 14 percent or 164 employees.

According to Evolve co-founder and CEO, Brian Egan, “In May, we were reacting quickly to a precipitous shortfall in Revenue, it was defensive and volume-driven; this decision is the polar opposite, we are acting strategically to unlock value creation and accelerate durable growth. We are confident in our work to re-underwrite our allocation of all resources, our self-sustaining profitability trajectory, and the ways in which our narrowed focus and rigor will serve to speed us up and protect us against future market volatility. So long as those things remain true, we will not be considering another broad-based reduction of our team,” he added."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT OFF LEASE ONLY

West Palm Beach, Florida-based Off Lease Only, a high-volume, pre-owned car dealership group, has declared bankruptcy and shuttered all of its locations.

The abrupt closing will impact 446 employees.

According to the company, "The Company made this decision due to the significant challenges and competitive pressures resulting from unprecedented changes to the automotive retail landscape. The industry has been impacted by inventory scarcity, and vehicle price inflation stemming from supply chain disruptions and multi-year declines in new vehicle production. Elevated pricing and rising interest rates have further deteriorated conditions in the automotive retail market, weakening consumer demand and affordability."

"Off Lease Only has explored a range of strategic options; however, industry headwinds coupled with the decreased affordability of used vehicles have necessitated the decision to pursue an orderly wind-down of the business."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT GIANT FOOD OF MARYLAND

Landover, Maryland-based Giant Food of Maryland, a regional supermarket chain with 165 stores, has announced the closure of its Hanover, Maryland and Milford, Delaware warehouses.

The closure will impact 362 employees and commence on October 21, 2023.

The decision was driven by the company's home delivery operation model in which company employees will pull online orders from the store shelves and package them for a third-party service to deliver.

According to a company spokesperson, “Our ambition at Giant is to meet the changing needs of our delivery… faster delivery, more delivery time slots, and a broader assortment. We are adapting our operating structure to better meet those needs and to provide this important service through a local fulfillment model."

"We will consolidate our Giant Delivers business out of our newly opened Manassas, Virginia, e-commerce fulfillment center and launch a localized pick-from-store model using our Giant associates as well as continue to partner with third-party providers to provide faster delivery for our customers."
