AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT EQUINIX

Redwood City, California-based Equinix, a data center technology enterprise specializing in shared co-location data centers, has announced a 3% reduction in its global workforce.

It previously announced it was ending its “Metal” bare metal IaaS (infrastructure-a-service) offering in June 2026. In a statement, the company said, "Equinix is moving towards the end-of-life for our bare metal as a service product as we focus on the growth and acceleration of parts of our business, like colocation, interconnection, and hyperscale. There is no immediate impact on existing Equinix Metal customers under contract; they can continue to use Metal as usual and will see no degradation to their support or care experience."

The reduction in force will impact 400 employees, including 87 headquarters employees in California.

According to a company spokesperson, “Equinix continues to evolve our services to ensure we provide the highest value to support the changing needs of our customers. As part of these ongoing efforts, we will, at times, make internal adjustments to reallocate resources and prioritize initiatives that accelerate our strategy. To that end, we recently eliminated a limited number of roles (approximately three percent of our global workforce) to align with current priorities. We continue to actively recruit new talent to serve customers and drive growth."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else?
