AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT GLASSDOOR (03/26/23)

Am I Next? Glassdoor downsizes.

MARCH 26, 2023 — 140 LAYOFFS

According to Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong ...

Since last summer, we’ve provided regular updates on the shifting macroeconomic environment and the decisions we’ve made to operate conservatively amidst the uncertainty. From the start, we said that layoffs would be a last resort. Unfortunately, we have reached that point. It is with a heavy heart that I share that I have made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce. Today we are going to say goodbye to around 140 of our colleagues, who represent approximately 15% of the Glassdoor team.

It’s heartbreaking to say goodbye to such a talented group of people for reasons that are outside of their control. To those of you departing, I want to convey my deepest gratitude to each of you for your contribution to Glassdoor. Today is a very sad and emotional day, but I hope you can take pride in the meaningful work you’ve done during your time here.

Finally, I recognize that for all of us, it’s going to take time to grieve and process the changes we are experiencing today. I ask that we all do our best to support one another during this time. That is the Glassdoor way. Thank you.

Mill Valley, California-based Glassdoor, an anonymous employer review, and job search platform has announced a major reduction in force impacting 300 employees and reducing executive pay in an effort to match costs to reduced cash flow.

According to Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong ...

"It has been gut-wrenching to watch COVID-19 unfold and witness its impact on our business, let alone our lives. While we sought to act conservatively in an effort to weather this crisis, I am deeply saddened to share that these recent efforts to cut costs have not been enough.”

"I also want to be clear about one thing in particular: the people whom we are asking to leave are leaving through no fault of their own.”

"Words cannot describe how sad I am that we find ourselves in this position. It truly breaks my heart to say goodbye to such a talented group of people for reasons that are outside of their control."

"I want you to know that the list of departing employees was determined by our executive team, and I had the final call on every person," he wrote. "In most cases, your managers had no input into the decision. This was my call and I take full responsibility for every one of these decisions."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
