Pennsauken, New Jersey-based Misfits Market, a subscription box marketer of blemished organic fruits and vegetables at discounted prices, has announced a consolidation initiative that will result in the closing of three fulfillment centers in Delanco, New Jersey, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dallas, Texas. The relocation of the company's headquarters is still pending.
The closures will impact 649 employees or 33% of the company's workforce.
According to a company spokesperson, "Even though Misfits Market has employees in nearly 30 states, the company was launched in Philadelphia and its greater metro area is where many of our employees, including our founder and CEO, call home. However, following last year’s acquisition of Imperfect Foods, we arrived at a consolidation strategy built around a distributed network of smaller fulfillment centers to support our first-party delivery by Imperfect Foods’ own driver network, reducing the need for large centralized facilities like the one in Delanco."
