Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, an integrated nonprofit health enterprise with 40 hospitals with more than 8,000 licensed beds, and more than 800 clinical locations, has announced a systemwide personnel realignment initiative following an operational loss of $198 million in 2023.
The reduction in force will impact approximately 1,000 employees, “primarily among nonclinical, nonmember-facing administrative staff through attrition, closing of open positions, elimination of redundancies and other actions.”
According to Chief Communications Officer Paul Wood, “The entire health care industry continues to face the realities of a still evolving, post-pandemic marketplace. UPMC is responding to these challenges and opportunities while remaining true to its mission of providing exceptional care for patients, employees, members and communities.”
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
