Vernier, Switzerland-based Transocean, the world's largest offshore oil and gas drilling contractor, has announced plans to layoff up to 110 employees based in the company's Houston, Texas office.
The employees are associated with the management of the Deepwater Asgard , a drilling rig located in the Gulf of Mexico. The rig is nearing the end of its contractual obligation and due to the global downturn in the oil and gas industry is not likely to find a contract for additional work.
The layoffs will commence in mid-December, 2020. The company also laid off approximately 110 employees from the management of the Discoverer Inspiration rig in September, 2020.
